If you are interested in snorkeling or diving, all of the boats provide the appropriate equipment. We have a 24 hour front desk TEAM to handle the latest of arrivals. And since late arrivals will sadly miss our free happy hour, you will receive a free cocktail coupon upon check-in to help get you settled. All rates quoted are for one or two people sharing the same room. Additional guests may be registered at a charge of $50 per night, per extra person.

The fine printMust-know information for guests at this property

Our front desk requires all guests to be registered and personally “buzzes in” all visitors and guests through the one and only resort entrance and exit. We are very fortunate that Key West is so accepting and loving towards the gay community, but just like anywhere else, common sense is key. Check out our Key West page for more details on our favorite places and call or stop by and speak with one of our Island House TEAM members, who double as Key West recommendation experts. We’ll suggest the ‘can’t miss’ hot spots and make reservations if you like. Award Winning Small Ship Adventures

un cruise alaska

The Wilderness Adventurer has four levels and holds a maximum of sixty guests, so it’s not huge. We chose this cruise over a larger cruise company because we wanted to explore the wilderness areas where the big ships are not apt to travel. By embarking on a 160-foot boat, we were able to get back to nature and truly connect with the wilderness of Alaska.

How to Choose an Alaskan UnCruise Itinerary

Our Alaska cruises deliver adventure, action, exploration, and the unexpected—paddling and hiking, calving glaciers, Glacier Bay National Park, bears, whales, and polar plunges. Unlimited beverages, alcoholic and non, are included in the price of the cruise. Dietary restrictions happily accommodated with advanced notice. The Lounge has a large flat-screen TV featuring closed-circuit channels which include a GPS map of the location of the ship and an under-bow camera. Movies are shown at night in case enough passengers agree.

When you come back from an Alaska cruise, it’s a given that you’ll rave about the landscape, its vast and wild nature, and the wildlife you spotted. But what you might not expect is all the AHA moments and adventures you had, and to form lasting connections with your shipmates and crew on an adventure of a lifetime. At the glacier, everyone boarded skiffs to navigate the ice-strewn waters to get closer to the face of the glacier. We enjoyed hot chocolate and spotted some harbor seals in the area too.

DAY 5 Blashke Islands Watersports Paradise

Visiting dozens of glaciers including Chenega, Columbia, Meares, and Sheridan; College and Harriman Fjords; Cordova and Valdez, and more. From Whittier to Dutch Harbor or reverse on the Safari Explorer for 10 nights. From Juneau to Sitka or reverse on the Safari Endeavour for 7 nights.

Our Alaska cruise adventures deliver action, exploration, and the unexpected—paddling and hiking, calving glaciers, Glacier Bay National Park, bears, whales, and polar plunges. Alaska boasts the most itineraries of all our destinations. Whether you go for 7, 12, or 14 nights, there truly is a trip for everyone. Along the massive Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands. This is a rarely visited area that few ever put their eyes on.

Day 2 – Walker’s Cove & Rudyerd Bay in Misty Fjords National Monument

⚓️ Alaska Fjords & Glacier Bay Ultimate Expedition – 14-night from Juneau to Ketchikan (or reverse), exploring Yes Bay, the Wrangell Narrows, Fords Terror Wilderness, Baranof Island, Glacier Bay, and Haines. 🚢 Prince William Sound Explorer – 7-night round-trip from Whittier, exploring Chenega, Columbia, Meares, and Sheridan Glaciers, College and Harriman Fjords, and Cordova. 🛳️ Northern Passages and Glacier Bay – 7-night from Juneau to Sitka (or reverse) exploring the Lynn Canal, Glacier Bay, Icy Strait, and Chichigof and Baranof Islands. 🧊 Alaska Fjords and Glaciers – 7-night from Juneau to Ketchikan (or reverse) exploring Ford’s Terror Wilderness, the Wrangell Narrows, Blaske Island, Yes Bay, and Behm Canal. These happened intermittently (or every day) throughout the cruise, and added some relaxing aspects to an otherwise active, adventurous cruise. As the largest community in Southeast Alaska, there are lots of things to do in Juneau; it’s easy to fill your half-day here after disembarking before your flight.

Wilderness Legacy

Enjoy a main lounge that evokes the feel of a National Park Lodge or neighborhood pub and relax on deck or keep watch for wildlife. Each evening aboard the Wilderness Adventurer, we were given a briefing on the next day’s activities. Annie — our enthusiastic adventure leader — came up with a list of activities which usually included shore walks, more advanced hikes, guided kayaking, open kayak and skiff tours.

Make this summer unforgettable with $500 off Alaska cruises and more. We'll match you with a local itinerary expert to help you plan your trip.

Yes, there are glaciers you can cruise right up to, but there’s something special about the ones where you have to pick your path across huge smooth boulders and silky silt to reach. In the afternoon, most people on the boat took a skiff tour to see Baird Glacier. We had to hike across the alluvial plain and various moraines to see the face of the glacier. It was our first glacier encounter (but not our last) and my group was lucky enough to have a glaciologist among us, so we had an extra knowledge boost. We woke up our first morning as we pulled into Misty Fjords National Monument. With fjords that rival any you’ll see in Norway, mirror-smooth glass, and my favorite type of clouds in the trees, it was the perfect spot for our first off-ship excursion (kayaking!).

The food aboard the Safari Endeavour is on par with every meal I’ve had on other cruises. Long days of Alaska summers mean extra playtime. Temps are warmer, so there's better access to higher elevation hikes. Come summer's end and into early fall, wildlife gets busy—mating, migrating, and feeding up for winter.

The cruise line also partners with a land-based resort, allowing passengers to extend their vacations on land in the Bahamas before returning on the ship several days later. East Coast and the number of ships it can accommodate at one time, most major cruise lines visit the islands there. Additionally, cruisers can find Bahamas stops on sailings that depart from non-Florida ports on the U.S. They are often seven or eight days in length and include calls on Florida and the Bahamas. The Bahamas is a great place to visit, as long as you set your expectations.

Or revel in the laid-back atmosphere of island time while floating along the shoreline. Experience the best of the Bahamas and the Caribbean with Princess. Fill your days on a short escape with Oasis Class thrills — onboard Allure of the Seas®. Six of the cruise industry's seven private islands are located in the Bahamas. These carefully curated swaths of land can only be visited if you're sailing on a ship that has access. One unique outlier is Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, which exclusively operates two-night voyages back and forth between Palm Beach, Florida, and Freeport, Bahamas.

When to book a Bahamas cruise

Dive and drift through warm waters to reach colorful coral reefs in Bimini like Rainbow Reef. And take part in some thrilling wall diving — where you can explore deep reef edges — in New Providence. Private cabanas, villas and bungalows are also offered, but they come at a premium and usually book up quickly.

The best Bahamas cruises offer something cruisers can't quite get enough of — whether it's beach time or party time. Don’t show up expecting buffet lines and traditional cruise cabins. Come instead for something completely different and go home with a tattoo reminder of that time you cruised the Caribbean without feeling like you were on a cruise ship. But what if you could vacation on a cruise ship in the Bahamas that throws out all the preconceived notions about cruising? It’s the best Bahamas cruise ship for people who think they won’t like a cruise. The line’s previous leading lady of the Bahamas cruise scene -- Scarlet Lady -- is passing the torch to Valiant Lady.

You can visit The Bahamas without a passport on a closed-loop sailing (one that begins and ends in the same U.S. port). Examples include sailings that depart and return to New York or Miami. Caribbean Princess is prime for those who seek a more refined atmosphere but don't want to sacrifice fun.

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. The winter and early spring seasons bring a handful of itineraries on premium lines like Celebrity Cruises and Holland America. On Bahamas cruises, embark on diverse adventures no matter the destination. Explore the Mayan Ruins in the Western Caribbean, snorkel past coral reefs in the Southern Caribbean, and sail on a catamaran in the Eastern Caribbean. Find activities for the family during a spring break vacation that feels like summer. If you've cruised or are planning to cruise to someplace warm, it's likely the Bahamas will pop up on your itinerary -- and for good reason.

Consider a pre- or post-cruise stay in Charleston to take in the city's historic landmarks, epic dining and charming cobblestone streets. Norwegian Jewel might not have the extensive top-deck attractions of newer ships, like Norwegian Prima, or as many restaurants and bars. However, passengers will find plenty to occupy their time onboard with scheduled activities, a casino, spa and pool areas. Freedom of the Seas has plenty of onboard fun to occupy travelers of all ages on sea days. It's loaded with top-deck slides and water features, specialty restaurant choices and more entertainment options than you can take in on a short cruise. Carrying around 4,000 cruise guests, Freedom of the Seas is big enough to impress without being overwhelming.

What to Wear on a Carnival Cruise? Dress Code for Dinner

formal night carnival cruise

Another time, the printed daily had the wrong theater show listed for that night; the correct one was posted in the HUB. On another day, the printed schedule was missing part four of a four-part show, which did show up on the agenda in the app. There, you can order any of the same coffee beverages you'll find at JavaBlue but in far less time. If you're feeling more like a cocktail, you can grab one of those, too.

Bottom Line on Cruise Formal Nights

Carnival is also well known for the Punchliner Comedy Clubs on its ships, which draw quality comedians and can get a little raucous late at night with adult-only performances. Design-wise, Carnival's cabins and suites are fairly basic and comfortable, if not super stylish. Cabins on recently unveiled or overhauled vessels have a soothing palette of creams and blues. Cabinetry in these rooms is a crisp and clean faux wood, and cabin bathrooms are neutral. Note that the Carnival fleet is scheduled to grow over the next year with two more new vessels.

How formal are cruise formal nights?

Formal Night is not only about the ambiance and activities; it’s also about the attire. On this special evening, passengers are expected to dress in formal or semi-formal attire. For gentlemen, this typically means wearing a tuxedo or a dark suit with a dress shirt and tie. It’s a chance to showcase your personal style and dress to impress. For evenings, the recommended onboard dress is elegant casual for most ship venues. Suggested attire for men includes trousers and collared shirts (ties and jackets are optional but not required).

Embarkation Evening or Early Sea Day:

Some passengers may choose to dress more casually, especially if they prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. However, participating in Formal Night allows you to fully immerse yourself in the luxury and glamour of the cruise experience. It’s a chance to create lasting memories and capture stunning photos that will serve as a reminder of this unique evening. While children are not required to dress up for formal nights, many parents enjoy dressing their children in special outfits for the occasion. The number of elegant nights can vary depending on the length of the cruise. What’s the difference between elegant, formal, and captain’s Gala?

Cruise Formal Night Explained: 10 Things to Know (What to Wear and More…)

On my sailing, the bartenders were phenomenal and even remembered that I prefer non-dairy milk with my lattes. Give me one or two pina coladas on a weeklong cruise, and I'm good to go. However, the massively creative options on the menus at both the Golden Mermaid and Dr. Inks, Ph.D., bars are absolutely worth a shoutout.

On those nights, the main dining room requires men to wear suits or jackets and ties, and cocktail dresses for women. In the evenings, T-shirts and shorts are not permitted in the ships' public areas. Jeans are allowed on casual resort wear nights, as long as they aren't torn or ripped.

Sail a few longer voyages, like a transatlantic sailing, and you could reach it even sooner. On most ships, smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is only allowed in designated outdoor areas and in casinos and nightclubs. On Carnival ships in Australia, smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas. Carnival Panorama also houses Carnival's first cooking classroom. When it comes to raucous, though, nothing on Carnival ships quite compares to the frequent karaoke nights on board.

Sometimes held in a secondary lounge or a shipboard pub, karaoke on Carnival draws a big crowd. Passengers come prepared with rehearsed songs and sometimes even their own guitars. The latter venue was created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri and serves a free lunch on embarkation and sea days, with all items smoked on board. Most of these six ships (all but Carnival Venezia) have an a la carte barbecue-and-beer joint called Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, too.

What to Expect on Formal Night Onboard a Carnival Cruise

Carnival Jubilee has so many places to eat that I ran out of time to try them all on my weeklong sailing. On Carnival Jubilee, the Lido Marketplace on Deck 16 is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, but I found it largely uninspired and lacking in variety. The French toast I had for breakfast and the mahi mahi I had for dinner were tasty, but there are definitely better no-charge venues on board. Speaking of the bed, it was exceptionally comfortable, and I was excited to find that the TV across from it had a sizable selection of free movies (as well as newer releases for a fee).

One afternoon later in the sailing, two different crew members approached me a total of six times in less than half an hour while I was having lunch on the Lido deck. The first five times, I simply said, "No, thanks." After the sixth time, I had enough and told them nicely but firmly to stop asking me. I found the high-pressure sales tactics excessive and irritating when all I wanted to do was eat my meal in peace.

This gives passengers the opportunity to have multiple formal evenings to enjoy. Formal Night on a Carnival Cruise is an evening dedicated to elegance, where passengers have the chance to dress up in their finest attire and indulge in a luxurious experience. It is an opportunity to escape the casual atmosphere of the ship and embrace a more glamorous ambiance. Think of it as a night to channel your inner movie star or socialite and enjoy a touch of old-world charm.

Formal Nights are just one of the many highlights of a Carnival cruise. With their exceptional service, diverse amenities, and thrilling entertainment options, Carnival Cruises is a leader in the industry. From the moment you step onboard to the moment you disembark, your Carnival cruise promises to be a voyage filled with excitement, relaxation, and lasting memories. Carnival Cruises provides a schedule of Formal Nights that allows guests to plan and prepare in advance.

Women should choose dresses, pantsuits or skirts or slacks with nice tops. Uniformity across the fleet is a bit more likely on this small-ship upscale cruise line. In other words, Oceania Riviera's dress code is likely enforced the same as Oceania Regatta's dress code. In this post we’ve gone over what to expect on cruise formal nights, and why they are a special part of many cruises.

Formal attire includes suits and ties or tuxedos for men and cocktail dresses and evening gowns for women. Smart-casual attire includes collared shirts and slacks for men (jackets, sports coats and blazers are welcome) and dresses, skirts and blouses or pantsuits for women. On these evenings, passengers can either wear elegant casual attire or opt for a more formal look, such as gowns, cocktail dresses, dark suits or tuxedos. Cruise elegant on Carnival Cruises means dress slacks, dress shirts and optional sport coatsfor men and cocktail dresses, pantsuits and elegant skirts and blouses for women.

As well, there are almost always announcements from the cruise director throughout the day sharing what is going on during the day and evening. They will usually mention it when it is formal night, so keep an ear out for announcements. It may be that if you are on a very short cruise (e.g. three days), there might not even be one formal night.

You can also take advantage of the lower rates offered by the cruise lines during the shoulder season, which can help you save money. Most cruise passengers tend to avoid the early season because of the school calendar and cooler weather. By going in the summer months, many people get to enjoy Alaska when things are in full swing and of course the warmer weather.

When is the best time to cruise to Alaska for maximum daylight?

The weather starts to cool, and the landscapes begin their transition into fall, offering a different kind of beauty. We can speak to this firsthand, having journeyed through Alaska multiple times and still finding new wonders to explore. A single cruise won’t cover all that Alaska has to offer, but by identifying your top must-see activities and experiences, you’ll be better equipped to select the ideal month for your Alaskan adventure.

With fewer crowds in May, take a step inside Alaska’s finest fisheries and taste fresh king salmon — a local delicacy — as they’re plucked from the cool waters. Revel in the rousing vibrations of May sunlight and lookout for humpback whales as they make their first appearance of the year. Or, explore the outdoors on a peaceful boat tour through deep fjords and enjoy a relaxing train ride up the sweeping mountains. As the driest month of the year, May provides optimal conditions to experience the great outdoors.

The abundance of wildlife in summer creates a captivating spectacle that you won’t want to miss, making it the best time to go on an Alaska cruise. The fall salmon run also attracts bears and other predatory species to the rivers and shorelines, making viewing them from a cruise ship deck much easier. Humpback whales, orcas, seals, and other marine species are also more active during these months.

The best time to visit Alaska to see the northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, is during the darker months when nights are longer. Although the northern lights can potentially be visible all year, your chances are much better from late September to early October. The Alaskan cruise season runs from May to September, encompassing a period of rapid change in wildlife, weather, pricing, and crowds. A cruise ship offers a comfortable and convenient way to explore this vast and picturesque region, giving you the chance to create memories that will last a lifetime.

June to August

Although the rain isn’t convenient, it is the reason for the lush vegetation you enjoy. However, it’s important to remember that this area is part of the world’s largest temperate rainforest. The benefits of cruising in April include less expensive pricing, fewer tourists, and less crowded ports. Here is a breakdown of other important considerations for an April Alaskan cruise. Holland America Princess, and Royal Caribbean have Alaskan Inside Passage cruises departing from Vancouver at the end of April.

That said, it is possible but not guaranteed to see them on an Alaska cruise. An Alaska cruise in early April, or late September, close to the fall equinox (September 21), will increase your chances. The most temperate Alaska weather is in July, then June and August when it’s warmer (though again, not near tropical) and drier. When it comes to May vs. September, May is slightly cooler, but gets significantly less rainfall.

Advantages of Visiting Alaska in August

In some areas, it is dark enough to view the northern lights, and autumn also brings a fresh blanket of snow on high mountains. Agnes Stabinska is the creative force and co-founder behind the Alaska Itinerary blog. With a degree in Tourism Management and postgraduate studies in Journalism, Agnes combines academic expertise with real-world experience. Alongside her partner, Chris, she's your go-to guide for an authentic Alaskan adventure. Check out when is the best time to visit Anchorage and when to visit Fairbanks, as we mentioned about local events and festivals in those biggest Alaska cities.

They can navigate narrower waterways and get closer to shorelines, which allows for enhanced wildlife sightings and access to smaller, off-the-beaten-path ports. Visitors can also explore the nearby Misty Fjords National Monument, which offers dramatic landscapes of sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and deep fjords that can be explored by boat or floatplane. However, if you’re looking for the best overall weather and want to enjoy a bit of everything Alaska has to offer, late June to early September is ideal.

The area is also renowned for whale watching, with numerous tours available that offer the chance to see humpback and orca whales in their natural habitat. Regardless of the time you choose to cruise Alaska, be sure to pack a pair of binoculars to enhance your whale-watching experience. Alaska food festivals, marathon races, dances, art exhibits, and so much more are offered year-round, but especially during cruise season. Ketchikan holds a Gigglefeet dance festival in late July or early August each year. See local residents show their best moves, then dance to music old and new.

The average July temperature in Juneau is 64 degrees, with an average low of 51 degrees. Temperature is relative, so don’t be shocked if you see an Alaskan sporting shorts and a tank top in June. The 60s can feel downright tropical after winter temperatures in the 20s and 30s.

Choose a longer vacation that lets you soak up the warmer weather that July is known for in Alaska. The Grand Heartland Adventure Cruisetour combines a 7-night Alaska cruise with seven days of touring the inland area of Alaska through Denali National Park and up into Fairbanks. You can also choose tours tailored to your interests during your July cruise.

While layering is advisable for port visits, consider lightweight clothing for active shore excursions like hiking or glacier walking. There’s always a chance of seeing whales from the deck of your cruise ship, but for a closer look and more immersive experience, small boat tours in the ports of call can provide unforgettable encounters. Expert tour guides will share fascinating facts about the different species and whale pods you may come across.

For a cruise-tour option, Princess’ 12-day Denali Explorer itinerary blends five days on land with a weeklong cruise with mini-suite rates from $4,008 per person. Uncruise’s 12-night “Inside Passage” itinerary departs April 15 with rates starting at $6,300 per person, and Alaska Dream Cruises’ seven-night “Last Frontier Adventure” has starting rates from $3,995 per person. Peak cruising months, July and August, are the best time of year to cruise to Alaska. During these months you will have the warmest weather and the greatest chance to see wildlife. For cruise itineraries in Alaska, August high temperatures will be somewhere in the upper 50s and low 60s.

If you’re trying to squeeze in one last summer vacation before the kids go back to school and life becomes hectic again, opt for a shorter tour portion of the cruisetour. Experience the wonders of Endicott Arm Fjord and Dawes Glacier on the gorgeous Celebrity Solstice on a June cruise to Alaska. Celebrity Cruises has roundtrip Alaska cruise itineraries that depart from Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia, and one-way cruises (northbound and southbound) to and from Seward, Alaska. In addition to the spectacular scenery and rich native wildlife, you’ll also find the ports of call on your Alaska cruise to be welcoming and full of interesting things to see and do. Shoulder season is also the best time to go on an Alaska cruise if you prefer fewer crowds while exploring the historical and cultural aspects of Alaskan cities and towns.
